Mojo Seasoning

Our island neighbors to the South have played a very influential role in Florida’s food. The Cuban influence in Miami and Tampa, especially in Ybor City cannot be ignored. Evolving from African, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, French and Spanish cultures, traditional Cuban dishes are made from readily available, inexpensive and simple ingredients and are typically prepared with spices to enhance the flavor.

Most Cuban food is slowly cooked over a low flame. In Cuban cuisine you won’t find many dishes that are deep fried or smothered with a heavy or creamy sauce.

Traditionally Mojo (pronounced MO-ho), includes cumin, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, sliced raw onions and a little bit of water. This convenient dry Mojo Seasoning packs in the distinct Mojo flavor and can be used as a rub or easily made into a marinade. An excellent seasoning for roasting chicken or pork.

Possibly the most famous and certainly a Florida favorite of Cuban influence is the Cuban Sandwich or Cubano. This tasty sandwich consists of roast pork, ham, pickles, cheese and mustard on a pressed Cuban bread. A close relative, the Pan Con Lechon is similar and another great way to enjoy slow roasted Mojo pork. Enhance the flavor even more with a Mojo dipping sauce! Not only is it great with the sandwiches it makes a spectacular drizzle for fish tacos.

Hand blended from a fragrant combination of garlic, cumin, black pepper, orange and lime. 

Mojo Marinade

Make a Mojo dipping sauce for use as a sauce or marinade for chicken, fish or pork by simply mixing 3 tablespoons of our Mojo seasoning with 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice, 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice and ¼ cup of olive oil. If you have access to sour orange replace the orange and lime juices with 1 1/2 cups sour orange juice.
